Photographically I am not at all interested in certainties. Artistically I appreciate the gap. While I wished for a long time to land in photojournalism, I now feel rather comfortable in redefining images, instead of defining representation.
Identities, belongings and landscapes – they all invite us to speculate. Photography and THE IMAGE can be a dilemma.
Besides my artistic practice I create workshops on photography, art, media and art in public spaces – always with regard to social conditions as a reference – where people can reflect on the relationship between transformation and anxiety, considering that we are located in a world of pictorial inflation. Thereby I hope to encourage participants to explore and discuss stereotyping, concepts of “truth” and the ethics in media. I like to pay attention to the concept of class, because I do not believe, as it was widely assumed in Germany till some while ago, that they have been dissolved.
Currently I manage projects for exiled journalists in Germany and support their efforts to protect the freedom of press.
And, so as not to give the images too much dimensionality, I write about extremism and emotions, about ego´s and community.
